Obviously, this is one of my favorite coasters, since we also covered it extensively last year while on tour. But I grabbed a lot more than just one ride this time since we were exclusive guests of the Primadonna Resort in Primm, Nevada. After running around The Strip all day, it was time to re-charge the batteries both literally and figuratively, grab a hot shower and head downstairs to meet up with Aaron Cohen, public relations guru. Aaron made sure that we had plenty of passes to hit America's tallest and fastest rollercoaster, and hit it we did, with a vengeance.
Of course, Desperado hit back.
This Arrow Dynamics monster features a 225 foot drop and produces speeds of nearly 90 miles an hour--and that's without magnets. Rising from out of the casino, the majestic yellow lift takes about a minute to crest and then sends you plummeting into a broken mine shaft before whipping you through a fast and furious spiral that launches you nicely into a series of camel humps that will keep you off of your seat. At the mid-course brake run, there's a reprieve from the speed, but not for long as the brightly colored trains buzz the front of the casino, dip down near the log flume and then whip around in a brutal helix before ducking sharply under the monorail track and depositing you back into the station. Two ladies named Pam and Lisa sat in front of me on the second time around and I prepared them for their first ride by saying "it ain't Space Mountain". After barreling through that mind-numbing spiral at 88 miles per hour, I distinctly tasted hair-spray.
There was more to experience though, and after getting my jollies on this fine rollercoaster, it was time to check out the rest of this expansive indoor frontier.
