"Made out of an all-walnut acoustic dulcimer kit from Cripple Creek in Manitou Springs, Colorado, Angelique was born out of a need to get as far away from feedback as possible. That is, the feedback that happens when you hook an acoustic instrument up through devices such as distortion pedals and stompboxes. Joline, being such a big-voiced girl anyway, was serving as a conduit for crazy feedback in the monitors, so until a solidbody dulcimer could be obtained, this was the next step.

My friend Patrick McKinney from Guitar Center, Winter Park, FL, is the store repair guy, but also one hell of a luthier, so we discussed some ideas about a shallowbody electric dulcimer that would cut down on resonant space while retaining the authentic dulcimer tone for an electric presentation. With a piezo pickup underneath the bridge along with volume and tone controls close by for easy adjustments during shows, Angelique's acoustic tone is still very warm and inviting. But plugged-in, she not only carries the traditional dulcimer sound over into the electric realm, but she knocked out 95% of the feedback issues I'd been having."
