Model: 1 and Only
"The inside label, which I burned around the edges for a more rustic effect, reads: 'This dulcimer was designed and created in the month of August: 8th through the 15th by Mike Futch 1986.'
I made it out of a Cripple Creek kit and built it with tools in the dulcimer shop while I worked. Spruce wood on top, I remember it cut like butter. Walnut for the sides and bottom. Some over-exuberant jigsaw-cutting resulted in nicks which I patched with a chocolate-colored paste made of walnut sawdust and carpenter's glue.
Art deco triangles were wood-burned into the top, traveling under the fretboard and connecting the arrow-shaped soundholes with the music notes by the headstock.VSL of 28" - no 6+ fret.
Big boomy sound. Slight ring in the middle string. Served as my main dulcimer for years (well, there were only two.) Named after the wife of Walter Knott."
