the birth and death of
Le Roque Journalist
In September of 1997, while interviewing Chicago artist Mr. Imagination, Bing Futch was given the opportunity of a lifetime. Mr. Imagination was creating a sculpture for the soon-to-open House Of Blues at Downtown Disney. With articles and reviews in local magazines The Orlando Weekly and Ink 19, the budding journalist had just begun the journey in print and was keen on letting folks know it. With a self-referential manner and abstract approach towards description, Futch dubbed himself "le roque journalist" at this point in his career. Thankfully, the cheese was removed from the menu within a year's time.

While preparing for a story on Mr. Imagination, a found-object artist who created the archway for HOB's Voodoo Garden, Futch ran into public relations man Steve Glum and scored an invite to the grand opening festivities. Not only that, Glum said, but he'd be added to the "working press" list at HOB for any and all events to come. Here are a selection of reviews from both national and local shows during the time that "le roque journalist" was still on the prowl. - Dean Rezzen.
